DATE: Victorian, c.1884

 A cool antique signet ring, with a carnelian intaglio with the words "Nihilo Nisi Cruce". The Latin phrase translates to "With nothing but the Cross". The motto was originally a war cry or slogan. It's also carved with an heraldic crest that, according to Fairbairn, belonged to the Barber family, with different spelling variations such as Barbour and Barberton. One of the earliest bearers to the surname was Alexander le Barbur, London, 1273! The band is crafted in 18k gold with full English hallmarks Birmingham, 1884.
